On September 27, 2002, China Ministry of Ecological Environment released the List of New Pollutants subject to Priority Control (2022 edition) for public comments. The list covers a total of 14 new pollutants, including,
- 10 persistent organic pollutants (such as PFOS and PFOA),
- 2 toxic and harmful pollutants,
- 1 environmental endocrine disruptor, and
- 1 antibiotic.
Detailed information such as the suggested environmental risk management measures as well as the exempted applications are also given in the List.

On December 29, 2022, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the List of New Pollutants for Priority Control (2023 Edition). The 2023 edition basically remains consistent with the draft released in September 2022.
The 2023 edition shall come into force on March 1, 2023.
