On 27 November 2023, the Specification for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals Part 31: Precautionary Label for Workplace of Chemicals (GB/T 30000.31-2023) was published on the National Public Service platform. The standard, which aligns with the 9th revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (UN GHS), is a recommended national standard (prefixed with GB/T) and will be implemented from June 1, 2024.
This standard, being the 31st part of the GB 30000 Specifications for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, sets requirements on the preparation and use of precautionary labels for the workplace of chemicals.
A precautionary label comprises of:
- Product identifier,
- Pictogram,
- Signal word,
- Hazard statement,
- Physical and chemical properties,
- Precautionary statement,
- Pictogram of precautionary measures,
- Information reference prompts, and
- Emergency telephone number.
GB/T 30000.31-2023 also specifies requirements for the preparation, color, font, size, and printing of precautionary labels.
It is important to note that the horizontal size should not be less than 80 cm × 60 cm, and the vertical size should not be less than 60 cm × 90 cm. Additionally, when printing the label, a yellow and black border with a width of at least 3 mm should be added to the edge. The location and height of the label should also meet corresponding requirements.
