On June 20, 2023, based on related provisions of the Act on the Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals, the National Institute of Environmental Research in South Korea published a partial revision to the Notice on the Designation of Toxic Substances and the Classification and Labeling Regulations for Chemical Substances.
Major Changes to the Notice on the Designation of Toxic Substances:
- New numbers, from "2023-1-1116" to "2023-1-1118", have been added;
- Names of substances numbered "97-1-24", "97-1-106", "97-1-205" and "2005-1-547" have been changed; and
- Requirements including import declaration and business license, labeling of hazardous chemicals and measures during the transitional period have been settled for newly designated toxic substances.
The numbers and names of chemical substances are as follows:
Main changes to the Classification and Labeling Regulations for Chemical Substances:
- Hazard classification and labeling of newly designated toxic substances have been added based on the hazard assessment of registered chemical substances;
- Hazard classification and labeling of three substances, including cobalt manganese nickel oxide have been announced;
- New numbers, from "2023-1-1116" to "2023-1-1118" have been added;
- The classification and labeling of existing hazardous chemical substances have been updated;
- Classification and labeling of five hazardous chemical substances have been updated (unique numbers are "97-1-24", "97-1-106", "97-1-171", "97-1-205", "97-1-547"); and
- Restricted substance "06-5-14" has been added.
