Cosmetics in South Korea are primarily regulated by the "Cosmetic Act" and the "Enforcement Rules of the Cosmetic Act." Any business planning to import, distribute, and sell cosmetics must register with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH). Before cosmetics are marketed, the MAH must submit a notification to the Korea Pharmaceutical Traders Association (KPTA). For functional cosmetics, the MAH must also obtain pre-market approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Additionally, functional cosmetics that claim specific benefits, such as whitening or anti-wrinkle properties, require additional evidence to support these functional claims.
From July 10 to 11, 2024, CIRS Group Korea is set to host a free webinar on Latest Regulatory Compliance Requirements for Imported Cosmetics in South Korea. This webinar will primarily focus on the regulatory compliance required for imported cosmetics under South Korean cosmetic laws. The agenda includes an overview of the current South Korean cosmetics market, a summary of South Korean cosmetic regulations, the process for cosmetic notification and registration, key points for ingredient filling, guidelines on promotion and labeling/advertising, as well as the latest cosmetic regulatory requirements.
